MOTHERS CLUB AND FATHERS CLUB FUND 2005
FACULTY REQUESTS TOTALING $97,982
|
The
Mothers Club donated $88,000 raised through the Spaghetti
Supper events. The Fathers Club donated $10,000 raised
through concession sales.
On Monday, October, 31, 2005, the MBA faculty received confirmation of
the allocations granted. The Mothers and Fathers Clubs were able
to fund almost every request submitted for consideration. The allocations
will be used to enhance and enrich the MBA experience in the classrooms,
in athletics and through the arts. Another funding will be made
in the spring when the balance of this and additional allocations are
available. Thanks to the MBA community for contributing to this
success, and especially to Mary Jo Alexander and Laura Riley, Spaghetti
Supper Chairs.

Faculty and Staff Breakfast |
There
are many traditions at MBA and I was told by a teacher today
that the "Faculty Appreciation Breakfast" held in
October at the end of the 1st quarter
grading session is a highlight. We had over 40 volunteers from
The Mother's Club who prepared food, decorated,
served, hosted and cleaned up for approximately 125 teachers
and staff members. It was a great morning for all and we loved
seeing the special smiles on those that influence our sons
so much. Sandy Lowe and Ann Waddey are grateful to
all who helped and could not have done it without each of you.
Many Thanks.

MBA Mothers
Club-
Thank-you so much for the bag of goodies you sent me via the Sunshine
Committee. What a great idea - lotions, juice, books, everything I need
to make me feel better now and when I start chemo next week!
Thanks again!

Dear Kim,
Due to the funding of the Mothers Club I was able to join a group of
MBA faculty, along with Brad Gioia, on a trip to Washington, DC where
we participated in the International Boy's School Coalition. I don't
believe that I have ever heard such quality speakers in a period of three
days. I hope to continue to attend this conference when I'm invited to
do so. Please know how important this conference is for the teachers
here at MBA. What I learned during those three days has alredy helped
mein my thinking, in my goals, and in my planning for next year. What
a valuable tool and a wonderful opportunity!
Thank you for everything you do and please let the Mothers Club know
how much your hard work is appreciated and how much value you add to
our school.
Sincerely,
Robert S. Black

Dear Kim and the Mothers Club,
Thank you so much for helping to make possible our recent attendance
at the Boy's School Conference in Washington. The speakers and sessions
were stimulating and helpful. Best of all, the MBA group was able to
devote time to thinking and planning our own goals for the school and
our boys in the year ahead. Thank you for all you do for MBA.
Best,
Alan Coverstone

Dear Kim,
Anne Bramwell and I want to convey our deepest thanks to the MBA Mothers
Club for your Spaghetti Supper allocation to the library this year. With
these funds, we will be able to update much of our old video collection
with DVDs that teachers can use more efficiently in their classrooms.
Kim, almost daily when I look around this building I am amazed at all the
special things I see that we purchased through MC funds in the past years.
I simply can't thank you enough.
Sincerely,

Dear MBA Mothers and Fathers Clubs,
This is indeed only a small way to thank you for the generosity you showed
to me and my students with your allocations this year. The sets of books
you enabled me to purchase for my classroom will provide excellent practice
for my first year students in reading real Latin authors, and I know
this will enhance their time in my class. I find it difficult to believe
how much time - how much passion! - you give to thei place, but believe
me when I say it is truly appreciated.
With sincere thanks,
Sarah Ellery

Thank you so much for showering us with kindness these past few weeks.
Your faculty breakfast represented an incredible outpouring and I
thouroughly enjoyed it. Your incredible work on the Spaghetti Supper
paved the way for an unbelieveable contribution to the school! I
personally appreciate the video camera that teachers will use to
review themselves and I will use to offer improved support and training.
I can also attest to the annual impact your work has had on our Debate
Team, and thie year's additions to our Research Technology will continue
that incredible trend. Thank you ALL so much for
all you do for MBA!

Dear Mothers of the Mothers Club
This is a bit late, but not at all an after-thought. I just received the
warm-ups fro the track team that were purchased with your gift and wanted
to tell you thank you. It is so important thet the boys be able to warm
up properly before competing and they sure have more confidence when they
are dressed alike and have nice gear.
I really appreciate your hard work!!!
Thank you also for the Christmas gift! I LOVE to read!
Merry Christmas!

MBA Mothers Club General
Board Meeting Minutes
November 8, 2005
|
I. Welcome -Kim
Bundy welcomed everyone to the MBA Mothers Club General Board
Meeting.
II. Approval of the Minutes -Susan Gregory
noted the minutes have been posted on MBA website for review
and asked for approval/corrections/additions. A motion was
made by Kim Bundy to approve the minutes and was seconded
by Carol Wieck. The minutes were approved.
III. Communications Update -Marilyn Hinton
and Nina Thomas reported on their respective roles .
Nina proofreads all submissions for the website or print materials to
look for potential conflicting dates and other information. She asked
that all information be sent to her for review before including on the
website or prior to being mailed. She noted they were putting the Mothers
Club newsletter on the website and asked if everyone has been able to
access it. It was suggested people update Adobe Acrobat on their computer
in order to be able to read it. Marilyn pointed out that some people
are still having difficulties accessing information with the change-over
to the new website design. She will work with Nina and Kim to make it
much easier to access. People should call Marilyn or Nina if they have
difficulty accessing information on the MBA website. Kim thanked Nina
and Marilyn for their hard work.
IV. Allocations -Kim met with Mr. Gioia, Spaghetti Supper
Chairs Mary Jo Alexander and Laura Riley, President-elect Melanie Yappen,
Treasurer Carol Wieck, Fathers Club President and President-elect Randy
Herron and Jay Ramsey, and Allocations Chair Barbara Martin, to begin
the process of allocations to various departments within the MBA community.
$88,000 from the Spaghetti Supper and $10,000 donation from the Fathers
Club was able to be used to fund various projects and endeavors within
the academic and athletic departments of MBA. Kim noted the process was
very fair, with each academic faculty request funded. All sports were
funded, except for those who did not request funding. Smart boards, LCD
projectors, and other equipment were purchased for the classrooms. This
allocation represented a $17,000 increase over last year's.
V. Treasurer's Report -Carol Wieck reported the Mothers
Club has a balance of $107,695.40 and the Raffle raised $26,377.05. The
Allocation check was not written yet, so balance will go down after that
donation is made.
VI. Nominations -Kim announced that a form will be sent
out in early January asking for nominations for various Mothers Club
committees, roles, and committee Chairs. The Nomination Committee will
meet at the end of January to discuss and start filling the various roles.
The committee is Chaired by President-elect Melanie Yappen and comprised
of President- Kim Bundy , Class Mothers Coordinators- Grace Awh and Betty
Anderson, and Volunteer Coordinator-Susan Brown. Kim encouraged mothers
present to send in nomination forms and for all to encourage others moms
to do so as well. A slate of nominees will be presented to the general
membership for approval at the March meeting.
VII. Committee Reports -
A. Spaghetti Supper - Mary Jo Alexander and Laura Riley
expressed their appreciation to all who made this year's Spaghetti Supper
a huge success. They are pleased with the dollar amount that will be
given to MBA and noted that they hope that with the completion of additional
art sales, that final amount will be increased. Mary Jo introduced Susie
Brannon and Lake Eakin as next year's Spaghetti Supper chairs. It also
was noted that $31,000 in raffle tickets was raised this year even though
the only boys would could sell these tickets were 18 or older. They asked
everyone to give some thought on increasing raffle ticket sales or other
revenue sources, and to please give those suggestions to Lake or Susie.
Expenses were down this year which increased revenue. Mary Jo and Laura
thanked the Mothers Club volunteer force for making this year's event
happen. Kim gave Mary Jo and Laura gifts of appreciation from the Mothers
Club.
B. Kroger - Kim reported things are going well and
the Mothers Club received a check from Kroger yesterday for $1200.00.
To get an MBA/Kroger card, please e-mail Carol Kimball at the address
on the newsletter. 80 families are regularly using their Kroger cards
C. Sports Program Update - Lisa Morgan noted this is
the first year the Mothers Club has been in charge of the football sports
program that is sold at all the games. This Spring, there will be programs
for all Spring sports, as well. Next Fall, the football program will
also highlight other Fall sports. A program will also come out next Winter,
highlighting the Winter sports. There are two reasons why other sports
will also be recognized in sports programs: 1) Emphasize the community
of spirit and thought among all sports and recognize their equal importance
within the MBA community; 2) Develop/solicit people for ad packages that
will be in all programs and gives them the opportunity to advertise all
year long. Lisa will be sending an e-mail asking for volunteers and requested
people send her names of those who might like to be involved. Kim thanked
Lisa for a great vision..
D. Musical Tribute - Jean Ann Banker reported on this
upcoming 2nd star-studded memorial tribute to the late Sandy Bull, which
his wife Candy started last year. It will be a wonderful evening of well-known
musicians, singer/songwriters from the music industry and all proceeds
will go toward the MBA Music Endowment Program. There are various prices
and events for the evening: $75.00 for the concert only; $200.00 for
cocktails, dinner and a reserved concert seat, and $1500.00 for a reserved
table of 8. Volunteers are needed for the evening to help with decorations,
ushering, ticket-taking, selling of CDs, as well as other duties. Please
let Jean Ann or Judy Smith know if you would like to help. Tickets will
go on sale to all on November 14 th .
E. Big Red Store - Kim Bundy announced Lacrosse gear
will be added to the Big Red Store and offered as pre-sales. There are
new ties (Gentleman tie, Athlete tie, and Scholar tie) available, as
well as bowties. The volunteers have been wonderful and Friday sales
have been great this Fall. Special thanks to Deborah Lovett.
