Katrina's destruction

September 23, 2005

Imperial House Project For Victims of Hurricane Katrina

St. Thomas Hospital has offered 30 apartments in the Imperial House (the high-rise next to the hospital behind Nashville Eye Center) to the Red Cross for Katrina evacuee families. The MBA Service Club and parent volunteers have agreed to sponsor a family, possibly until December 2006. This commitment involves furnishing the apartment, paying the utilities, connecting the family to a faith community if they so desire, and keeping contact with the family.

At present, we are collecting the following:

  1. Dishes, flatware, linens, pots and pans, microwave (no toaster ovens)
  2. Bed (esp. twin) and bath linens, night stands, dressers
  3. Kitchen/Dining room table and chairs
  4. Living room furniture, TV, radio
  5. Cleaning supplies, household items

Gently used items are appropriate. If at all possible, please take donations directly to the Imperial House, and mark them for #811. If necessary, some small items can be taken to the concession stand in the gym. For large item pick-up, call Suzanne Snyder at 352-5613 or 513-4033.

Some of the other family sponsors are very small groups and will have difficulty furnishing the apartments they are sponsoring. MBA has agreed to donate to the other apartments anything extra that we collect . The apartments are being cleaned by Turner Construction and families are moving in.

If you wish to volunteer, please call Ellie Billington at 352-7147 or 668-4525 or e-mail her Ebillington@fpcnashville.org .
