Virtual Tour of the Patrick Wilson Library

Welcome to the Patrick Wilson Library!

We hope you will enjoy this virtual tour of the Patrick Wilson Library at Montgomery Bell Academy, Nashville, Tennessee.

The Patrick Wilson Library is the focal point for technology and information on MBA's campus. Over fifty computers are available for student use here although every building on campus is on MBA's network. Thus, the Internet may be accessed from any building on campus

The Library was named in memory of Patrick Wilson, a former MBA student. It was built in 1968 and renovated in 1997 with funds given by the Wilson Family.

Numerous special features enhance the library. These features include: Current listings of all Nobel Prize Winners, names of people who have changed the world on the glass balcony as well as outstanding student artwork

Two full-time professional librarians are available to help you in the Patrick Wilson Library (PWL). They are: Ms. Mildred Tilley and Mrs. Anne Bramwell.

The PWL is open on school days from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Students on the Privilege List (PL) may come to the library at any time they are not in class. Students not on PL may come only with a signed pass from a subject teacher. They must also check out of study hall before coming to the PWL.

There is no eating, drinking or chewing gum in the PWL. Students are expected to behave in a respectful manner towards teachers, staff and fellow students. Disruptive behavior may result in demerits or suspension of library privileges.
The borrowing period for library materials varies.
  • Books--May be checked out for 3 weeks
  • Reference Books--Overnight checkout
  • Videos--Overnight checkout

Students are notified when books are overdue on their FirstClass e-mail accounts. There are no fines for overdue books, but if a book is lost, the student who last checked it out is responsible to pay for its replacement.

NO EXAMS WILL BE GIVEN TO STUDENTS WITH LOST/OVERDUE BOOKS.

The Language Lab, Foreign Language Office, Computer Lab and Computer Classroom are on the upstairs level of the PWL.

The lower level of the PWL contains: the main reading/computer area, circulation desk, librarians' offices, glassed-in study/listening rooms and the Lowry Reading area. The glassed-in study rooms are favorites among MBA students for group study use. (Four people is the maximum number for each glassed-in study room. Two people may share each listening room.)

The conference room is located on the lower level as well. This room is reserved for classroom and meeting use only.

The Douglas Paschall Shakespeare Garden, located just outside the Lowry Reading Area, is a secluded outdoor location for quiet reading and study. Most plants in this special garden are identified by type as well as the specific Shakespearian work in which they are mentioned.

Students must have a signed Internet Protocol Sheet on file at school before using any of the computers on campus. As stated in this form, playing games, making credit card purchases and looking at pornography are strictly prohibited.

There is a copy machine next to the circulation desk in the PWL.  Copies are ten cents per page. Because the machine only takes coins, the librarians will be glad to make change for copy users.
