History
During the 2001-2002 school year, thanks to a grant from the Davis Foundation,
the History Department produced an On-Line Sourcebook for the study of history.

Three history units are required for graduation (United States and Modern European
History, plus one additional elective) and Art History has been moved to the
Fine Arts Department (though we encourage students to take Art History as a
fourth history course and students taking a sequence of courses in the Fine
Arts can allow Art History as their third history course). The Ancient and Medieval
History course has been modified to include a significant non-Western portion,
and we require all students in the eighth grade to take Cultural Geography.
The sequencing of course offerings has been altered (U. S. History in the seventh
grade with a focus on Tennessee History, Cultural Geography in the eighth grade,
World Ancient and Medieval History at the 9/10 grade level, concluding with
Modern European and American History, in that order). We now have a Program
of Studies, members of the Nashville community are called in from time to time
in order to share with us their expertise (Ridley Wills is always happy to share
with us his knowledge of Nashville history and architecture), more of our fine
staff belong to state and national professional organizations, we have an extensive
audio-visual/VCR collection, and faculty and course offerings are evaluated
on a yearly basis.
