June 22, 2005
Dear Parents,
You may remember that last summer Dr. Jim Shackleford
and Mrs. Anne Christeson made a critical study of MBA’s performance
on the 2003 PSATs and presented the results of their analysis both to
the faculty and to the parents through a link on MBA’s website.
This summer Dr. Shackleford and Mrs. Christeson are conducting a follow-up
study to determine how well students performed on the new format 2004
PSAT compared to their results from the previous year. The results of
their study will again be made available to faculty and parents. In preparation
for this fall’s PSAT, however, we would again like to remind you
of some steps which students and parents can take this summer to aim
for higher scores this fall:
· Students
and parents should review the individual “Score Report Plus” which
each student received last spring, containing not only his scores on
the verbal, math, and written sections but also an analysis of his individual
areas of weakness and suggestions for improvement. If the student has
lost this document, we would be happy to make a copy for him as well
as supply him with an extra copy of the PSAT test booklet.
· Log
in to the College Board web site (www.collegeboard.com/testing)
to find information on preparation for the PSAT and the SAT, including
practice tests, practice questions, tips on test-taking, and information
about both the SAT and the PSAT, which will be administered at MBA on Wednesday, October 12, 2005.
· Commercial
reviews for the SAT are available from several companies. The best-known
is the Princeton Review, whose web site (www.princetonreview.com/coursefinder)
includes locations and fees for the next local presentation, beginning
this June 30, as well as online courses available for a much-reduced
price.
· Three
SAT prep courses are offered at MBA this summer, covering both the verbal
and math sections of the test. Students may review for either section
or for both. The classes run from June 27 - July 8, July 5 - 15, and
August 8 - 19. To enroll,
contact David Brown, (298-1691, ext. 318 or brownd@montgomerybell.com).
· MBA
will once again provide students this fall with a PSAT and SAT test-taking
skills course before the PSAT is administered. This class will be taught
by Dr. Shackleford and Mrs. Christeson and will be offered one time in
three sessions, on October 4, 6, and 11 during activity period. Students
must attend all three sessions.
We are committed to helping your sons and hope that
you will always feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns.
| Sincerely, |
