MBA is a consistent source of stability in the lives of boys. MBA is a place where they can spend time with adults who embrace the challenge of shaping boys into young men of character. Our students feel secure because expectations are clearly outlined. MBA understands that boys need care, certain freedoms, and strong direction, and the school recognizes that they respond confidently to established parameters. Recognition for honorable behavior is handled in an equally sensitive and democratic way as is discipline: when we see a boy “doing something right,” we acknowledge it.
Traditional events like the mother-son breakfast, father-son dinner, golf outings, and the ring ceremony offer a time of reflection and healthy interaction for boys and their families. MBA provides a rigorous curriculum and a wide array of extracurricular activities and travel opportunities. We also find the time to focus on relationships among students, families, faculty, and alumni. It is, after all, these relationships that make MBA such a unique community.
MBA alumni and the Fathers Club have established a mentoring program which encourages students to spend time with the fathers of their peers. Boys are invited to share hobbies, shadow professionals at work, or take an internship or summer job.
The Mothers Club Lecture Series brings notable speakers to campus and provides a forum in which parents and students can listen to the same message. Boys exchange questions and comments with such acclaimed writers as Michael Crichton (Jurassic Park, ER), Pulitzer Prize winner Buzz Bissinger (Friday Night Lights), and sports journalist Frank Deford. The meaningful discussions that begin in such a forum at school will often continue at home.
MBA’s strengths have always been reflected in the achievements of its graduates. The focus of MBA’s mission of Gentleman, Scholar, Athlete, combined with the powerful and caring environment of an all-boys school, have provided a transforming experience to generations of young men. The greatest MBA legacy is the lifetime of friendships and associations that the school engenders. Alumni across the world feel connected to MBA and its mission. They believe in the values that were instilled and emphasized during these critical years of education. They have fostered the kinds of relationships and associations that endure.
At MBA, a boy’s life is changed forever in many positive and meaningful ways. He learns the habits of study, sound discipline, and personal responsibility. He sees the importance of a strong work ethic and the value of integrity. He builds the kind of interior strength that will guide and assist him throughout his life. In the greatest sense, an MBA education helps a boy become an individual who finds balance and excellence in his life, who builds a world for himself founded on honor and responsibility, and who lives with the spirit, affection, and loyalty only this time spent at MBA can foster. |
